RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, N.C. – Two high-tech firms with a major presence in the Triangle could be doing business together in a new way.
Cisco Systems (Nasdaq: CSCO) and EMC Corp. (NYSE: EMC) are “in talks” to create a joint venture that would focus on technology services, The Wall Street Journal is reporting.
The move is designed to enable the firms “to branch into new areas in the increasingly competitive tech sector,” the Journal said. Emphasis would be on installation of new routers from Cisco as well as storage systems from EMC. Cisco launched its new routers in March.
Code named Alpine, the venture would include representatives from both firms on its board, according to the report.
Cisco declined comment, and an EMC spokesperson would not comment on the new venture, the Journal said.
Cisco employs more than 4,000 people in RTP. EMC has both manufacturing and research and development operations in the Triangle area.
