This is just hogwash... The fact that Apple decided to start moving away from Google as a partner (not least since Google's Android platform is their biggest competitor as a mobile platform) and thus replaced a particular app on the iPhone with one of their own says absolutely NOTHING about Apple's williness or ability to continue to create disruptive technologies.
The only thing I agree with Vivek about is that Apple's map app is a lot better than what it gets credited for, and in many respects (perspective views, spoken directions) improves on Google's app, which they have had years to refine and it hasn't evolved.
