Duke University Hospital ranked 10th best in country in data compiled by RTI
Duke University Hospital has been named one of the top 10 best hospitals in America in U.S. News & World Report's annual best hospital edition, the hospital announced Thursday.
Duke tied for 10th place overall and ranks among the top 10 in eight of the 16 specialties measured. Duke is the only hospital in North Carolina and the Southeast ranked among the top 10 in the country.
The survey’s results are based on data gathered by researchers at RTI International in Research Triangle Park.
RTI gathered and analyzed information from nearly 5,000 hospitals.
The rankings for individual specialties were:
- Gynecology – No. 4
- Geriatrics – No. 5
- Orthopaedics – No. 6
- Respiratory Disease/ Pulmonary – No. 6
- Urology – No. 6
- Ophthalmology – No. 7
- Heart & Heart Surgery – No. 8
- Cancer – No. 9
- Kidney Disorders – No. 11
- Psychiatry – No. 13
- Digestive Disorders – No. 17
- Neurology and Neurosurgery – No. 18
- Diabetes & Endocrine Disorders – No. 22
The U.S.News & World Report's rankings appear in the July 16 issue and are available online at health.usnews.com/besthospitals. The issue is schedule to be on newsstands by July 20, 2009.
All of the 21 medical centers named as the part of the honor roll this year had to demonstrate a breadth of excellence by achieving a high ranking in no fewer than six of the 16 specialties, according to the magazine.
