Quintiles to formally dedicate new Durham headquarters
Quintiles Transnational, the world’s largest contract research organization providing a variety of drug development and related services to pharmaceutical and life sciences firms, formally opens its new headquarters in RTP today.
Workers have been on site for several weeks, but the 10-story building will be formally dedicated Thursday afternoon. Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Dennis Gillings, who founded the company 27 years ago while serving as a professor at UNC-Chapel Hill, will host the ceremony. Gov. Bev Perdue is expected to be among the guests.
Quintiles, which is privately held, agreed to build its new headquarters in North Carolina in November of 2006 after the state and local governments agreed to provide some $23 million in tax incentives. Gillings considered other bids for the headquarters.
The company agreed to create 1,000 new jobs and so far has hired more than 400 toward that goal. Quintiles says it is ahead of the six-year timetable for new job creation.
Quintiles has more than 23,000 employees worldwide, including 1,700 in the Triangle.
