MOORESVILLE, N.C. – NASCAR driver Kasey Kahne is organizing a 5K charity run and kids’ dash in uptown Charlotte the day following the fall NASCAR Sprint Cup race at Charlotte Motor Speedway.
The Kasey Kahne Foundation “Five Kahne Sponsored by Bank of America” is scheduled for the morning of Sunday, Oct. 17 and features a route that includes uptown Charlotte landmarks such as Bank of America Stadium and the new NASCAR Hall of Fame.
The Kasey Kahne Foundation, which has pledged $500,000 to the Ronald McDonald House Charities, aims to raise awareness for next year’s grand opening of the new Ronald McDonald House located on Morehead Street across from Levine Children’s Hospital at Carolinas Medical Center.
In addition, proceeds from the event will establish a scholarship fund for science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) education field trips to the NASCAR Hall of Fame for students associated with NC STEM Community Collaborative.
“A 5K event is a proven way to bring a whole community together to support worthy causes,” said Kahne, a fitness enthusiast and 11-time winner on the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series. “Partnering with Bank of America, the NASCAR Foundation, McDonald’s, and the new NASCAR Hall of Fame on this event enables the Kasey Kahne Foundation to support all of our core causes in a single community and industry event.”
Expected to participate with Kahne are several NASCAR drivers and media members.
Five Kahne advance registration is $20 per participant online or at the three Run For Your Life store locations in Charlotte. Registration rises to $25 on Oct. 3 and to $35 per participant on-site at the event. The Kids’ Dash race is $5 for advance registration or $10 on race day.
Volunteers will be able to sign up to help with the event via The NASCAR Foundation Volunteer Network. Event Marketing Services Inc., which organizes the popular Thunder Road Marathon, will serve as the race organizer.
To generate advance awareness and additional contributions, Kasey is conducting a social media-based Lead Foot Challenge on Facebook, whereas fans anywhere can make $30 donations to raise an additional $5,000 for the Kasey Kahne Foundation. Only 167 donations of $30 are needed to reach the target amount.
Contributors will receive a “Five Kahne Sponsored by Bank of America” event t-shirt for each $30 donation.
