DURHAM, N.C. – To treat quickly, sepsis must be diagnosed quickly.

Did you know the company that provides the most sepsis detection and diagnostic tools in the country is located right here in the Triangle?

bioMérieux is a world leader in the field of in vitro diagnostics and the lead sponsor of Sunday’s Step On Sepsis Inaugural 5K Road Race & Walk in Cary.

Sepsis is difficult to diagnose. It can also turn deadly very quickly. bioMérieux offers the most comprehensive arsenal of detection and diagnostic tools for the earliest possible identification of sepsis patients and verification of the systemic infections that often lead to sepsis.

The event will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. at Koka Booth Amphitheatre at Regency Park in Cary.

Helene and Jeff Zehnder organized the event to commemorate the life of Jerry Minore—1 of the estimated 260,000 Americans who die each year from sepsis and septic shock.

In addition to providing financial sponsorship, bioMerieux will provide literature and educational materials on the risks and prevalence of sepsis. Additionally, bioMérieux employees and their family members will show their support by participating in the event, which aims at reducing sepsis by informing patients and clinicians on the dangers of this condition.

All proceeds from the event will go to The Sepsis Alliance.
