For all you techies who have been waiting to make the “Internet of Things” a reality of linked devices in your home with help from Apple and Sirri voice commands, its HomeKit will be arriving soon, the company tells tech news website TechCrunch.
Here’s the statement:
“HomeKit has been available for just a few months and we already have dozens of partners who have committed to bringing HomeKit accessories to market and we’re looking forward to the first ones coming next month.”
Apple describes HomeKit this way:
HomeKit is a framework in iOS 8 for communicating with and controlling connected accessories in a user’s home. You can enable users to discover HomeKit accessories in their home and configure them, or you can create actions to control those devices. Users can group actions together and trigger them using Siri.
The Wall Street Journal and other news sites also are reporting that Apple’s launch window as being in June.
HomeKit was announced last year.
“The idea was that Apple could turn the iPhone or iPad into a command system for the myriad smart-home devices like thermostats, garage doors and locks,” notes The Journal. “Apple didn’t shed much detail about how HomeKit might work at the time, but the company said it would use a “common protocol” to help devices talk with each other and link securely with an iPhone or iPad.”
