AIG is bringing 230 jobs to Charlotte.

American International Group could receive as much as $4.9 million in North Carolina tax rebates as part of an incentive package for picking Charlotte as the site for a technology center expansion.

The company will invest some $5.5 million in the new operation, which will launch in 2014.

The commitment to add jobs is through 2017.

North Carolina Gov. Pat McCrory and AIG announced the expansion on Dec. 10.

AIG provides insurance services in more than 130 countries. It already has an operation in Charlotte and another in the Triad.

Average salaries for the new jobs will vary, but the state says their cumulative total will be more than $23.1 million per year.

AIG received a state Job Development Investment Grant, which is based on job creation and other requirements.
