Samsung and iPhone are still the top dogs when it comes to smartphone wars despite Samsung’s recent problems and dwindling hype over iPhones. New and more complete tests results from Consumer Reports show which is best.
From battery life to ease of use to even video and photo quality, Consumer Reports compared these two top phones head to head.
In terms of battery life, the Galaxy beat the iPhone with more than 20 hours of talk time. The iPhone 7 provides just 8 hours. Get the iPhone 7 Plus for about 3 hours of talk time.

“In our camera testing, the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus both did well,” said Jerry Beilinson of Consumer Reports. “Apple had claimed there would be a performance improvement in low-light photography over the 6S. Our testing didn’t find much difference.”
After all its testing, Consumer Reports rated the camera on the Galaxy S7 higher, saying it takes better images and videos.
Another highly touted feature of the iPhone 7 is its water resistance. It’s the first water-resistant phone from Apple. Several generations of Samsung’s Galaxy offer water resistance. Both phones met their claims in Consumer Reports’ pressurized water-immersion tank.
The biggest attention grabber for the iPhone 7 is its lack of a headphone jack, but Consumer Reports found no issues with sound quality with the new lightning-connected headphones or even the headphone adapter included in the box.
Overall, Consumer Reports says the Galaxy S7 beats the iPhone 7. For those set on an iPhone, the testers say the iPhone 7 is worth the upgrade for those with an iPhone 6 or older.
