6fusion, the cloud-focused Raleigh startup, wasted little time in using some of its newly raised $6.6 million in venture capital. On Friday, 6fusion disclosed that it is buying a Chicago company.

Also as part of the deal, 6fusion is adding talent to its management team.

The acquisition is MarkITx. The talent addition is Ben Blair, the chief technology officer and founder of MarkITx. He will serve as a board advisor to 6 fusion.

“The fit and synergy between MarkITx and 6fusion has always been very clear,” Blair said in a statement. “I am really excited to be joining the 6fusion team as they take our shared vision to the next level.”

Financial terms were not disclosed.

MarkITx touts itself as a B2B “Exchange For Enterprise IT Hardware – buy, sell and get accurate price information for used IT equipment.”

The company installed a new CEO last summer.

6fusion said it would acquire “substantially all of MarkITx assets.”

So how do the two businesses blend?

“MarkITx built technology to help businesses understand the value of their IT Infrastructure and recoup budget by selling their used equipment in an online auction. 6fusion is leading an industry-wide effort to standardize the unit value of IT consumption, utilizing the patented Workload Allocation Cube (WAC) algorithm inside it’s highly coveted universal meter for IT,” 6fusion noted..

In a statement, 6fusion CEO and founder John Cowan added: “MarkITx and 6fusion are rooted in the same vision to empower buyers and sellers of IT. We are looking forward to demonstrating some of the new possibilities that this acquisition will create.”
