GREENVILLE – More jobs and expansion are coming to the Thermo Fisher Scientific site in Greenville.

The investment is approximately $500 million and will include a new, stand-alone, 130,000-square-foot facility with two live- virus filling lines that will be operational in 2022.

The company also will add 500 jobs to an existing workforce of 1,500, according to the North Carolina Biotechnology Center in a report written by Barry Teater.

The company, which is based in Waltham, Mass., said Wednesday the Greenville operation is one of four sites to be expanded with approximately 1,000 new jobs being added over the next two years.

Thermo Fisher already has numerous jobs available at the site.

The Greenville facility manufactures sterile injectables, tablets and capsules. It also offers stability storage and testing, and active pharmaceutical ingredient and large-molecule development, according to the N.C. Biotechnology Center.

It’s the second good jobs news announcement in two days for Greenville. On Tuesday video game and software technology firm Grover Gaming announced plans to add 200 jobs.
