Cisco Systems began laying off employees at its Research Triangle Park campus on Tuesday. The company confirmed it is cutting jobs but would not disclose how many. It also is continuing to hire at the site, and laid-off workers can apply for open positions, the company says. The news had the Triangle Twittersphere buzzing on Tuesday. Also, a wide range of industry experts will be discussing what’s coming at the “Fiber Transforms the Triangle” conference at SAS on Oct. 13. But, the social conversations already are starting online even before the event does next month.
