Digital marketing agencies are the hot acquisition target for IBM these days. On Wednesday, Big Blue said it was buying Germany-based Ecx.io. It’s the third digital agency the tech giant has moved to buy in the past week.

IBM (NYSE: IBM) hailed the latest deal as another in a “rapid-fire series of investments.”

Big Blue is funneling cash to its own IBM Interactive Experience, or IBM iX, efforts.

Not only is the company adding hundreds of employees – it’s also gaining a growing list of prestigious customers.

A top IBM executive for IBM iX in Europe told Forbes that the three deals reflect a drive for more growth.

Matthew Candy told Forbes that IBM iX had been on a “journey” in building and growing its own 25 design studios organically, The acquisitions mean the possibility of faster growth.

“Our simple orders are growth, and these announcements are making sure to continue to drive it,” Candy told Forbes.

Last week, IBM bought Resource’Ammirati, which is based in Columbus, Ohio. Next came Aperto earlier this week. It is based in Berlin.

IBM, which recently said its Watson Internet of Things efforts would be based in Germany, has not disclosed financial terms for the deals.

The deals help IBM iX offer “new digital marketing, commerce and platform skills to accelerate clients’ digital transformations.”

“The customer experience has become a new priority in modern business strategy,” said Paul Papas, Global Leader of IBM iX. “Together with ecx.io’s distinct expertise, we’re raising the bar for experience-led, digital marketing and commerce.”

IBM employs several thousand people across North Carolina, including a huge campus in RTP.
